Touch Designer
Ikbenstil Workstations for Touch Designer, and Derivative's recommended system requirements for Touch Designer, with the latest hardware components.
Touch Designer Workstations
Real-time performance for interactive installations
TouchDesigner preferentially uses NVidia GPUs. For use in installations, museums and shows with long-term 24/7 loads, we recommend using the NVidia Professional RTX series.
TouchDesigner Workstation
Thanks to our many years of experience with hardware and customers, we have a clear idea of what constitutes the ideal TouchDesigner Workstation.
Recommended system requirements for TouchDesigner Like most software developers, Derivative has a limited list of recommendations for TouchDesigner that you are advised to meet in order to use the programme. These recommendations do not guarantee an optimally functioning TouchDesigner workstation, but they do meet the minimum requirements. The official information provided by software manufacturers is not always up to date and often lags behind the rapid pace of hardware development. That is why Ikbenstil Computers equips the TouchDesigner Workstation with the most up-to-date, balanced hardware that is best suited to the programme’s operation.
The hardware:
Processor (CPU):
Key tasks within TouchDesigner are handled by the GPU; the CPU is of lesser importance. Nevertheless, opt for a fast Intel i7 or, alternatively, an i9 with a high clock speed. The Intel Core Ultra 7 265K and Ultra 9 285K are the ideal choices for this. Naturally, the CPU is not only used for TouchDesigner, but also for many other tasks.
The graphics card (GPU)
We recommend using Nvidia graphics cards, specifically the GeForce Graphics or Professional series. The GeForce RTX 5080 16GB or RTX 5090 32GB are powerful and relatively cost-effective choices. If multiple streams are connected per card or the system is used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, a professional card such as the RTX PRO 5000 is recommended. A faster card such as the RTX PRO 6000 is recommended for the most demanding models and applications. AMD cards are now supported, but we have not yet been able to identify any advantages.
Memory (RAM)
Derivative recommends 4GB of RAM, whilst Ikbenstil recommends a minimum of 16GB, given the relatively low cost and the requirements of the operating system and the programme itself.
Storage
We recommend a fast primary NVMe SSD with a minimum capacity of 500GB for the operating system and programmes. And for data and content relating to ongoing projects, a secondary SATA SSD or NVMe SSD. If you require a lot of storage capacity, there are of course also large hard drives, or possibly a file server or NAS.
Customisation
Ikbenstil Computers has built workstations that are tailored to standard work processes and the associated software. If your requirements are not listed here, please contact one of our specialists, who can offer you a bespoke solution.
