Workstation for ZBrush
Workstation for ZBrush. ZBrush is a CPU-focused programme that works multithreaded. Both Intel and AMD offer excellent CPUs for ZBrush. We currently use Intel because of its higher clock speed.
Recommended hardware for ZBrush
ZBrush is a relatively ‘lightweight 3D programme’ that operates in a multithreaded manner. This means that both AMD Ryzen and Intel Core CPUs can be used. As ZBrush is often used in conjunction with other programmes, it is advisable to assess the full system configuration.
The hardware: Processor (CPU): ZBrush is, in itself, a fairly lightweight multithreaded (multi-core) programme, making the fastest AMD Ryzen and Intel Core CPUs suitable candidates, with Intel Core CPUs having a slight edge due to their higher clock speed.
The graphics card (GPU): The graphics card is less important in ZBrush; a mid-range Nvidia GPU is sufficient, as the programme is primarily CPU-oriented. If ZBrush is used in combination with other programmes such as Blender or Cinema 4D, we recommend more powerful cards.
Memory (RAM) Ikbenstil Computers recommends a minimum of 32GB of RAM in the ZBrush workstation. The programme runs well with 16GB, but as users typically work with multiple programmes, 32GB is the safer choice.
Storage For the ZBrush workstation, we opt for a fast primary NVMe SSD for the operating system and programmes. And for ongoing projects, a secondary NVMe SSD. Naturally, storage for content is also required; this can be on a standard SATA SSD or, optionally, high-capacity HDDs, a file server or NAS.
