FLC Tunnel
Fehmarnbelt Tunnel
Northern Europe's largest infrastructure project and the world's longest underwater tunnel.
We have been fortunate to equip quite a few impressive projects with our computers, but the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel amazes us time and again. The IVY has just been commissioned for this project. It is actually two ships that place 217 metre long elements underwater with super precision over a total length of 18,000 metres.
The elements must be transported and placed with millimetre precision, which is controlled and monitored by a network of computers.

The ‘Ivy’ is specially designed for transporting and immersing the project’s 89 enormous tunnel elements. The ‘Ivy’ consists of two custom-made immersion pontoons and has a length of 100 metres and a width of 45 metres. The vessel has a lifting capacity of 8,000 tonnes and accommodates 22 crew members. In total, four custom-made pontoons will play a crucial role in the construction of the tunnel. Earlier this year, the multifunctional pontoon ‘Maya’ joined the maritime fleet to install the gravel bedding in the tunnel…owner and designer of the vessels is Deme.
